LYME DISEASE EPIDEMIC IGNORED

Lyme Disease it’s an epidemic that no one seems to know about.  I remember in the early 80’s when AIDS was misunderstood and relatively unknown to the general public, Lyme has alot of similarities. It’s like a conspiracy to keep it in the closet, the CDC has protocols for diagnosing that barely scratch the surface of the vast symptoms that accompany Lyme and Lyme related infections.  Most people think of Lyme as only a tick born infection when in fact it can be contracted by multiple sources such as mosquitos, animals and can be passed on from mother to child as well as sexual contact.  The similarities to AIDS in these terms are very similar, but unless you know someone with Lyme or have mysterious symptoms yourself that no one can figure out it’s doubtful anyone would ever hear about Lyme.  The complexity of this infection is staggering and while there are web sites and plenty of information there is a serious lack of awareness by physicians.  Generally people are misdiagnosed, treated as if their crazy and just generally sent home to get sicker even when a Lyme test is peformed and comes back negative. The testing is so complex and difficult that many people have Lyme but won’t test positive, making it even harder for doctors.  So doctors aren’t  the villans but the entire process to bring awareness to any disease is so political that without a great out cry from the general public it’s doubtful it will receive the attention it’s due until frankly it may be too late.
